Everyone needs a basic spaghetti bolognese recipe with a bit of spark, that still tastes great, no matter how simple. Get that depth of flavour by cooking the sauce very gently until it’s super rich. This is designed to be a low cost recipe. It’s hearty and comforting with minimal clean-up

INGREDIENTS

2 teaspoons olive oil
400g Beef mince
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 large cloves of garlic, finely chopped
100g carrots grated
1/2 cup chopped oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, drained
2 x 400g tin chopped tomatos
1 cups water
1 teaspoon salt and pepper
400g spaghetti
Chilli, basil and fresh parsley are optional
Grated parmesan cheese, for serving

 

HOW TO

1. In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the beef and cook it, breaking it apart with a spatula, until it’s no longer pink.

2. Add the onion, garlic, tomatoes, and extras and cook them with the meat for two to three minutes.

3. Add other vegetables. Bring the pan to a boil and add the spaghetti.

4. Adjust the heat to maintain a strong simmer and cook the pasta in the sauce for 20 minutes, stirring frequently, or until the pasta is tender.

5. Add the herbs and stir.

6. Top each serving with grated parmesan cheese if using
